Pinch Hit tobacco tin sign
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:30:32 am »
Hello everyone.  I stumbled upon this site in hopes to get some information, and a valuation of a sign that I have picked up.  It is exactly like the one in this link.  http://may12.hugginsandscott.com/pl/46016a_pinch_hit_tobacco.jpg, but in much better shape.  I have looked around the internet and cant seem to find much info on it.  Any help would be appriciated.  Thanks a ton!

Where did you get the sign ??  We need to see your sign,, not someone elses !!  Reason being,,so many of these old signs have been reproduced thats impossible to tell much without seeing the one in question !!  Forgot to ask,, how big is your sign ??

A friend of mine got it from his grandma.  We have since lost contact, so I wouldnt be able to find out where she obtained it.  When I get home tonight I will snap some pictures of mine and get them on here.  Is there certain things I should look for, markings ect?  I will also grab the dimensions when I get home.  Thanks for the help!

No.  It is like the one in the link in the initial post.  I saw vast amounts of references to the one you have posted, but not the one I have.

The only one I found that sold was this one.
http://www.auctionscc.com/archive/200803/baseball-memorabilia/190/
It went for $264.00.  Is ebay the best to try and unload things like this?

ebay is a fickle place...you just never know whats going to happen...i recently sold an ornament that had a top end value of £500..or $790 approx...it cost me £5...and it only made £77...but i was happy...it all depends who wants it...if at all....

I saw that one for $264. it was in only fair condition !!  But that auction had another one,, same sign,, a while back that was listed with an original Pinch Hit tobacco pouch still full and never unwrapped !! Bid started at $150. but ended with no bids !!

Bizzare.  Guess you just have to find someone who wants it.  I got a Jack Daniels sign the same time I got this one.  I will take pictures of both and will be back on later tonight.  Thanks for all of your replies.

one of the problems with having an original...is...the re are tons of repo,s...at a fraction of the cost...so unless you find a dedicated collector of Babe Ruth..memorabilia.. or Tobacciana...relate d signs...then an ordinary punter who likes the look of this sign is going to go for a cheap repo...see link
