any info on this mirror?
« on: December 02, 2012, 01:58:50 am »
Picked up what used to be my grandmas mirror. I had seen it there at here house since I was like 4 years old, and I am 53 now. I allways thought the images of the birds and scenery were painted on, but they are not. The birds and scenery were all outlined and cut out! And the color of the birds and scenery are actually about 1/2" behind the mirror, set in kinda. making it look 3dish. Anyone ever see any mirrors like this or know the era of them? Over 50 years old easily.

Your mirror Bigwull is much earlier than top one !! Note yours is beveled and top one is not !!  These were done all during the 1900`s with many somewhere between the late 40`s and some of the 70`s !!  It was a revival of the earlier style !!  I made a few of these !!  This one was factory made and more 50`s style !!

This style was very common in the mid 1900's.  Especially in the states close to the oceans.  My grandmother had one as well...but it is long gone.

Over the years while chasing junk in the land locked states I've ran into more than one pink flamingo mirror hanging over a green frieze davenport that in turn was decorated with an anti-Macassar set done in multi colored thread. 8)
I remember several of this style mirror that were signed "Turner".

Egret would be correct.

Looks like 70s to me. 1970s.

Ghopper, the mirror I posted was in my grandmas house since I was 3-4 yeears old, since at least 1962 or 1963. And I was told she had it since very much earlier than that. I wish there was some info on the back of it, which there is not. I have one more mirror that my mother has had for many years that was given to her by an older woman back in the early 60's as well. Very old mirror too. Will post pics up later today of it.

OK then perhaps Mart was right about  the date. To me it looks like 70s van art. ;)

Van art?? LMAO   That van art was more like blacklight stuff then..LOL.. It is in incredible shape for being so old. Mirror reflection is not distorted at all. Have allways loved this mirror since being a kid.

Its difficult to establish a date for things like this with such a wide window of manufacture !!  You kind of have to go by the subject matter and what was popular at the time !!   Late 40`s and 50`s  anything tropical/exotic was popular in the decorating scheme !!  Pink Flamingos included !!
And Ghopper is right,, some were sold later on along with the velvet paintings of Elvis and Mexican rug wall art !!

Here is the other mirror I have I was talking about. An old lady gave it to my mom like in 1962. I have seen old movies from the 40's and seen this in the background.
