Can anyone tell me what style of rocker this is?  This chair was my great great grandpas chair and I am interested in finding similar chairs.  Thanks.

Wow that is really unique! I've never seen one like this and there may not be one. It could be a homemade one-of-a-kind piece. What years did your gggreat-grandfather live?

I think Mart would call this empire revival? Anyway, ca. 1910-15, oak. Hard to say how much it would be worth, but I agree with Tales that I've never seen another one quite like it, although the robust, high-armed look is common enough.

Unfortunately rockers are not usually worth a bundle, so maybe $100-$150 for this, depending on overall condition.

Actually Ghopper I think this is more of the Craftsman period chair although with the weight and style may be a transition piece somewhere in between the two !!  Would certainly fit with either !!

Thanks for the responses.  My brother actually owns this chair.  The original owners of this chair (I think) would have lived in central Nebraska in the late 1800's - early-mid 1900's.  I have another great grandparent (unrelated to owner of pictured chair) who lived in central SD who had a very similar chair (slightly bigger, more elaborate arm rests). Im not sure if my great grandfather was the original owner of the second chair, but if he was, it would have been purchased in the 1930-1950's.  I am just looking for any info regarding the style of the chair in hope of finding more like it.   Ill try to get more pictures.

The arts and crafts period was between 1860 approx and about 1910 !!  They were getting back to simple lines and individual craftsmanship !! You can see that in the mission style chairs and furniture of that period !! Some of these craftsmen didn`t follow the same trends and branched off into their own design forms !!  Thats possibly why you can`t find another like yours,, there may not be one !!  Thats not to say the maker didn`t create another chair but when he did varied it enough so as not to look exactly like this one !! They had a lot of freedom to create back then !!
Look at the bottom of the chair !!  A few did put their name on them !! Or factory mark !!  Not often but check anyway !!

Look on the inside of the back seat rail...see if there are any marks there.

I'm leaning toward a the 1910 time frame.  This is a very interesting combination of Arts & Crafts/Mission/and more.  If you look at those, the fronts on the rockers section resemble that era.  I imagine this chair is REALLY heavy...which is a good thing .  Older woods were thicker and much better aged wood.

I REALLY like this chair.....the more I look at it the more interesting it is.  I agree, I have never seen one like this before!!!!!

Can you take a close up of the bottom, of the construction, etc.  Thanks!
