Antique 925 Solid Silver medical kit
« on: December 09, 2012, 12:01:27 pm »
Hi people,

I had this for a little while,  found this at an estate I cleaned out,  I know that it's english and sold by Burroughs Wellcome Co. I know know it was made by the Silversmiths Corke Brother & Co. It measures 41/4" long by 31/4" wide,  weighs 7.7 OZ and was made between 1890-1910, I also have the syringe that fits in case. I've only seen one like it and it sold for British £1,850.00 or $2,966.93 U.S. I figured some people may be interested in seeing this piece.
                       Regards,
                       Kevin

Hi KC,

it still has the pills in the vials. The one I saw sold had nothing in it.

In 1880, Burroughs Wellcome & Company was founded in London by the American pharmacists Henry Wellcome and Silas Burroughs.[10] The Wellcome Tropical Research Laboratories opened in 1902.

I am betting this could belong to an individual with health conditions!  And...most likely had a medical background!  What an extraordinary piece to have!

Didn`t think about that KC !!  I assumed it would have belonged to a doctor !! Perhaps something he would have in the vest pocket while at the theatre,, or similar scenario for an emergency !!

Well-to-do's that traveled alot had to take their own medications, blood letting, hypodermic needles with hypodermic tables (dissolve-able meds to be injected).  Then you had those that used cocaine for recreation before it was deemed illegal (remember how Coca Cola originally had cocaine in it!).

This one looks like it had been a ladies carry kit with hypodermics

Here's another one in silver

In your lid, are those hypodermic needles or nasal insuffators (used to put medicines up the nose).

Here's a kit that was carried in early 1900's and those are the nasal tubes.

I was referring to them,,,not me !! Aspirin alone is a mind altering drug to me !! I wouldn`t even take the pain pills they gave me when I broke my wrist or had my appendix out !!

The-Warden, believe it or not, it was much more common to have silver carriers like these to carry snuff in.  Connoisseurs would carry several different blends!  Wild, huh?
