Royal Doulton Shakespeare plates
« on: December 07, 2004, 09:41:50 am »
Hi there, I'm looking for Shakespeare plates produced by Royal Doulton.  The porcelain plates are based on Shakespeare's characters, and the first series was produced from 1914 to WW II, and the second series was from 1906 to 1974.  I found one - Juliette - priced at $199.95 US.  How do I know if this is a good price and if it is the real McCoy?

Hi.....the best thing you can do is research. These would fall into Doulton Series Ware of which there are many. Your right about the dates and series so you have done some research. All of these lines were meant to be collected so all have markings. You can do a lot of it online by looking at different web sites including ebay. Go to your local book store and see if they can order a specific price guide for Doulton plates. The more research you do on your end the better your familarize yourself with precise plates, prices, markings, etc.
