Cool ceramic beer stein?

I don't think this is very old,hopefully wrong. Bought it from local thrift store today for 5 bucks. It is big stands 13 inches high. Base is 6 inch. Looked on the net didn't see anything like it. It is signed on bottom SJ.

Can we see the  bottom !!  Straight up please !! My neck doesn`t bend far enough to see with the sideways pics !!

Cause that's how you up-loaded them off your camera ......

cause you turned your camera side-ways to take the picture.

Just "flip" them 1/2 turn with your proto program and then re-upload them to the Forum.

Quite often those who use their I-Phone to both take the picture and to upload it to the Forum ...... don't realize that if they "snap" the picture in "landscape" .... then that's the way it will be uploaded to their PC and/or the Web.

This is actually a Masskrug...or Mass...as the Germans call it...its pronounced Maz...this holds 1lt of beer.or 1.7/8 pint..which is  equivalent to 3 American beers,Its more commonly called a bierstein..by people outwith German....the SJ..on the bottom..may be the initials of its owner...

I once spent 3 weeks in Germany and was impressed by the "fill-to-lines" etched on their bar/pub beer glasses.

And it didn't take me very long to learn to order 2 beers .... when I orered my 1st one.  ;D ;D

"zwi bier" or "swi bier" .... or whatever....... and hold 2 fingers up. ;D ::)

Looked up masskrug on Wikipedia and it says in Switzerland between 1838-1877 1.5L were used. This one measures exactly 1.5L to fill line. Huh

there,s obviously more than one wikipedia :D...because here,s what i found on UK,s Wikipedia.. ;D

.and according to this wikipedia 1lt = 34fl.oz US...where as its common knowledge over here..that  1 liter = 2.11337642 US pints 1 liter is about 1.06 quarts. 2 pints = 1 quart. 2X1.06 = 2.12 (about). Or here in the UK, 1 litre = 1.75975326 Imperial pints .furthermore...the US pint is smaller than a UK pint..14fl.oz US = 16fl.oz UK...

This is not a factory made stein more than likely a hobby piece !! The finish is just stained and rubbed off creating an antique effect !! If factory made the bottom would not be done the same and is usually left white and a company stamp or mark is applied !!  Initials are just scratched in before firing !!  60`s and 70`s ceramics were widely done here !!
