"Barker Ellis England" Goblet
« on: December 25, 2012, 12:46:58 pm »
Hey all. I got two of these today and tried doing extensive google research to find their value, but I wasn't able to find any that look like these. They're both the same with floral like patterns on the stick part and say "Barker Ellis" and "England" under that on the bottom. They appear slightly yellowish on some parts in the picture, but in real life they appear completely silver. Anyone here have any idea?  ???

I can't take anymore pictures right now, but if you save the image and open it in paint it can be flipped right-side up. The markings are leafs, vines, star shaped flowers and what looks like grape bunches.

"leafs, vines, star shaped flowers and what looks like grape bunches"..??...those are Not the kind of Mark,s that we are looking for...these marks are merely the decorative pattern..what we are looking for are the hallmark..that should be on the base...and No amount of flipping of this pic is going to show us that....here is an example of a Barker mark...

Bigwull, I'm not sure if it was your intention, but your post comes across with sort of an attitude. I am not familiar with the terminology so I didn't know mark meant "hallmark". I reported everything worthy of mention in my original post and the only words visible ("Barker Ellis" and "England"). There is no "hallmark". Also, Mart asked for a right side up picture, hence my telling her how to flip it without having to take a new picture. I obviously did not mean that flipping the image would help see the other side.

I'm not sure why you're trying to pick a fight, especially on Christmas. Did someone not give you what you wanted? I don't have access to a camera anymore. I'm asking for help but if you don't think you can help me, you're better off not saying anything than trying to start an argument...  What's the point?  ::)

If anybody else knows anything, please let me know.

Sorry, but I don`t have Paint on this computer !!  The mark on the bottom is what I was referring to and seeing that would possibly help determine age since many companies use several through the years !!  They can usually be dated by the mark alone to within a few years. If its written out Barker Ellis its likely a newer one !! But I will check !!

On January 2, 1979, the firm obtained a Federal registration in the USA for the trademarks Ellis & Co, Barker Ellis and Ellis Barker (the marks were cancelled in 1988)...they went into liquidation..in 1992..therefore it is safe to assume that these goblets...are not that old...and they are plated...for had they been solid silver they would have carried the Birmingham silver mark...similar to the one i already posted...as to value...over here..in UK...between £5 /£15..for the pair...

Bigwull is correct !!  The written words were only used on silverplate !!  Value here might be a little more but not much !!  I would say $10. to $20. for the pair !!  That would be in USD !!
