Small vase

I found this small small vase in my Mother's house. I don't know where they got it. Perhaps Dad brought it back from Italy after the war; perhaps they found it an a flea market. I just don't know. It is only about 3 inches high. It seems to be made of translucent or creamy green glass. The flowers around the sides are in raised relief. There are no markings on the bottom. Can anyone tell me something about this vase?

What you have is called  Cameo Glass  Many were made by famous French glass artists such as Galle'  and  Daum Nancy. Your piece seems to be well made but need closer photos of all sides and of base. Search for a signature within the design not the bottom.  The large chip in the mouth of your vase decreases value greatly!! Glass collectors are a picky bunch!!   Many reproductions have been made  in Poland, as well as Romania and China. Some very well done ,some mold done,some hand done. But this is very hard to do from photos only and by all means if you have a local museum take it in for a hands on.

If this should turn out to be an original late 19th/early 20th century piece it could be worth something, although as Wendy said, the chip will decrease the value considerably.

I am offering the vase for sale and will entertain offers. It is a Thomas Webb vase from the 1880s. There is a small chip missing on the lip; this is visible in the picture.

If this is the same vase you posted at first (photo is gone) the chip is NOT small. Did you take it for a hands on?? To who? Did they tell you it was a Thomas Webb? Just an FYI dickmarti this forum is not used to sell items.

The chip is very small. In fact I did not notice it until it was pointed out to me after the photo was taken.  There is a nearly identical vase for sale by a dealer in the UK. It is by Thomas Webb and was made in the 1880s. I did not know that I could not offer it for sale here. Its OK !!  Many make the same mistake !!  Try Ruby Lane for high end items,, Ebay for all the rest !!

Sorry, but I do not consider this to be a small chip, if you aren't a dealer the damage wouldn't jump out at you as it does for experienced people looking at it.  This damage will make a huge difference in the value, selling for a 1/5th to a 1/10th of it's original value.    I too recommend Ruby Lane as a good choice for selling or selling to a dealer who specializes in glass.

Agreed. Damage like this to glass is far worse than porecelain. Would have been a few hundred punds otherwise.
