Antique Game ~ Croquet Set (6)
« on: January 16, 2013, 11:31:21 am »
Can anyone provide information on the old croquet set? On the wooden box it says "Junior Croquet In or Outdoor" Complete with six mallets and six wooden balls, it has seen some wear.

Doesn`t have the wickets ,, similar to most croquet sets late 40`s or 50`s !! Value here if complete about $20. to $25. !!  Other areas may be slightly more !!

This was very popular in the 50's thru 70's...and still has it's following.  There are croquet clubs and associations all over!  We loved playing it growing up.

You would find nice wooden boxes like this in in many homes during the early/mid 1990's.  They are still widely sold today.

Looks like the wickets are missing.  Complete set like yours would sell for $20 - 24.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Wickets http://croquetwickets.com/html/wickets.html or hoops, regardless of what they are called, the indoor sets would have wooden or cast iron feet on the ends to allow them to stand up. Otherwise, you had to stick one of the wire legs in a long neck beer bottle in order to play. (Maybe that's why I was never very good at the game. :o)

There had to be an illogical answer...but if you,re ever over here and ask for wickets...don,t expect to be handed a Hoop..you,ll get 3 sticks and 2 bales..fur the top.... ;D

I've seen sets do anything from £80 to £300 but this one's about £20 i reckon due to lacking pieces
