Thanks for the extra pics.

If you look at the late 1930's to late 1940's you will see that Scotty dogs were very popular on items during that time period. Also, Boxers were just as popular.  However, your item is definitely from the mid/late 40's with the Occupied Japan identification.

Your box is art deco in style.  Still betting for a man's valet/cigarettes. 

Love the musical alarm aspect!  Giving me some ideas for applications today!!!
