queen victoria sovereign ring, engafement rings and id bracelet
« on: January 27, 2013, 03:16:57 pm »
Hi guys, my mum let me raid her jewellery box and I thought I'd ask you about some of these. They Arnt for selling but it would be nice to find out age etc.

So we have a queen Victoria gold sovereign ring. Says dei gra Britt Regina did def ind imp around her. 1900 on the back and an image of a man with swords on a horse. There are 4 hallmarks and I can't make out what they say. The picture is the best quality I can get with this phone. I reckon I need a camera!

Then there's an engagement ring- my mothers. Stone in the middle. AL mark.

Then ky great grandmothers engagement ring. She got married in 1939. Marks AL, LAT, I. 7stones on decoration. Finally my dads I'D bracelet. My mum got it for him for £175 back in 1979 ish. Says H&M, 375, has a crown mark and a rose and D.

Any info you guys can give would be great!

your sovereign..ring will most likely have a 9ct setting..the sov,is 22ct..value of the sov..anything from £190/300..the figure on the back is St George/Dragon ...then the shank...depending on what weight it is...could be over £100+...the i.d bracelet...what is the weight of it....

If the bracelet is 88g...then multiply that by £12.39..= £1090.32.....which has turned out to be a very good investment for a £175 outlay...

Wow. she said it was about 3 weeks wages for her then when she was soldering bits of metal onto circuit boards for the MOD! She has a ton of awful gold jewellery. I'm not a fan myself but I reckon she has a good collection of pieces. And as I'm the daughter I stand to get them all! Ha! My great grandmothers engagement ring is tiny. She wore it everyday - her husband died when she was 40 and she died last year at 98!

The sovereign is not a rare date so but sovereign rings like that are worth more than their gold weight.
Ask a jeweller for a favour or a small charge - £5 - and have the sovereign turned round so that George and the dragon face out. It's worth about £420-450 if the ring is 9ct. You need someone with a glass to look at the hallmark

Like the other rings too. The bark textured solitaire ring is nicer than most of that type

Why turn it the other way round? I'm not fussed either way to be honest. The bark textured one is my mums engagement ring, she has the matching wedding ring. Same pattern but a plain band.

And no I'm still not a fan of gold jewellery! Unless it is white gold of course.I have a few bits from the other half in white gold and they are beautiful. What I will do is make sure she looks after this stuff and gets it insured as she keeps it all together.

personally..i,d leave well alone...with the sovereign...its fine the way it is...not that i,m into sovereign rings...ugly boogering things...but any i,ve seen always have..George/dragon showing out...as for getting a jeweller to change it over for a £5 spot.... ;D....that,s cheap....with or without vat.....

Wear and tear on the sovereign.

i know a cobbler who does things like that on rings / watches for me for no cost or a couple of quid. Very handy  ;D

Is the engagement ring 18ct ?
