Old Big Bulb.

Greeting guys,

I'm new in this forums :)
I found this old big bulb at my grandpa house.but i cant find the details on internet.Already google it but didn't found the information.
.lucky i found this forum. hope u guys can help me.
Wondering is it Edison Bulb? Is it valuable? :)

Look's like a 500 watt Mogul base bulb to me. I don't have one to measure, but they are probably 9"+ in height? At the hardware store they are priced less than $10 usually.

this is a future...antique... over on this side of the pond...as...these are not...sold anymore..well..no new one,s..shops may have old stock.once they,ve sold them..there will be no more......only energy saving bulbs are fitted now....

I can't tell the size because I do not know the size of the fingers holding it. It looks like a 500PS35 that was made by GE and Sylvania. They were used in old street lights and in projectors and had a mogul base. It would measure 4 3/8 inches in diameter. If it measures less than that it is a PS25 which would measure 3 1/8 inches in diameter. All lamp numbers indicated the diameter in eights of an inch. 75R30Fl is a 75 watt reflector lamp measuring 30 eights of an inch. 40T12 is 40 watt tubular lamp measuring 12 eighths. A 500PS35 would measure 35 eighths or 4 3/8. It is wattage > shape > diameter > flood or spot where applicable > voltage. 100A19 120v is a standard 100 watt light bulb. They did not use the A designation on the larger versions and went wih PS. Sometimes the size is left out as in a 200 watt and simply called 200A

The wattage is almost always printed on the top of the lamps although it can be very hard to see. They are still available on this side of the pond and bright enough to reach the other side.

Gas street lighting...was common over here..right up until..the mid 70,s....and gas lighting was still the norm for houses..in the 50,s...no luxury of leccy lights for us....we were still paying you lot for the tanks,planes and bullets that you sold us in the 40,s...Lend/Lease it was called....

Around here it is a luxary to have 2 or 3 gas lights ...... but the luxary is actually the free gas to keep them lit ...... and your furnace, cookstove, water heater ....  ;D ;D

There are still some areas that have gas lights in the US. Montclair NJ and New Orleans French Quarter to name a couple. Montclair has the mantle type and NOLA has the open flame
