Need help identifying a cobblers bench or tray
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:04:42 pm »
Inherited an old cobblers bench or maybe called something else.
All photos I find there is a bench attached, but this one has no bench and a cast or wrought iron handle.

I just thought this was interesting. Haven't found a table with a handle.

I don't know why. It shows sideways. When I click the link it shows right ways up.

I can get a photo of the bottom tomorrow...

These old primitive wooden items are hot right now on ebay !!  If you look at Greenacres link,, lower left of the pic is what is more commonly known as cobblers tray !!  I have seen something like this,,, has a household use,,just need to remember what it was !!  Would have been placed across the lap when sitting and then carried by handle !!  Brain fog again !!

Mart, I am struggling with that myself.  This seems familiar and it wasn't a cobblers tray.  The piece across the table had a usage......ugggghhh hh.

I uploaded 2 more photos. 1 from the bottom and one from another angle.

Dimensions are
12 3/4" wide
17" long
 7" tall (excluding the handle)

Something about this feels Asian to me!!!!  Guess it is the way the top is, not smooth like a typical Cobblers bench...but ridged, almost like a bamboo effect.

AWWW, come on, ya'll, ..... it is not a bench ..... or a stool.

It looks to be special made to carry items that are small and light in weight to wherever those "items" were to be used to perform a task .... or, it was carried to "wherever" and there used to perform a "specific" task.

Not to add my two cents lol, but it looks like it wouldn't be stable to carry with that handle. Wouldn't it teeter like a see saw?

Maybe that is what the groove is for in the first picture. I just noticed that.
