Anyone have any idea of the value of this piece

Ok I will look. Since you folks are so knowledgeable and nice there was one other thing my dad told me he thought was over 100 years old. I looked through all I could find on antique storage chests and while some of them were similar none were the same and none appeared to have this lining in the lid. Is this something I should keep around?? The second and third photo's are of the underside of the top.

Pity the top is convex. If they're flat they can be functionable.

It's a camel back or camel hump dome trunk from the 1890s. See if you can find someone to restore it for $200 or so. When restored it should be worth about $500.

Msghopper and I own a trunk that is virtually identical to this one.When we got it it was almost worthless because of a 60s "antiqueing." We had a very talented friend restore it from the ground up, including new leather handles,  paint and a new tray within. The cost was about $250. Looking on the internet, similar trunks go for around $500.

Would cost more than that around here to have one restored !!  The smaller trunks are generally worth more that those large ones !!  No one has room for those big trunks any more and they are rarely bought just for storage !!
