Thanks Wullie !!  Looks like a perfume to me !!  The French had large decorative bottles when tourists bought perfume there !!  It was much cheaper than buying it here !!   Is anything on the bottom of the bottle ??  Usually there was not but you can check !!

Thanks Bigwull, you're a champ!  :)

Sorry the pics weren't showing for everyone...

There are no markings anywhere on the thing, from what I can see.  That would have been too easy!  haha

I think what you have is Baccarat. Here's an example with top.

I've seen one or two others on ebay. Still looking.

Kinda looks like a piece of a set of liquor jars or i think they are called decanters i've seen bigger ones on american pickers usaully when there that small it should be with a bigger set.

Pic not exactly the same but it comes in many designs people think it is perfume bottle could be depending if your bottle seems newer then 1960's or 1970's seem it may be because newer bottles have rubber for glass on the top piece for safety from cracking. back in the day when men got a newer bigger decanter the wife would hold there perfume in the old ones. Later on they started making perfume bottles to look the same as a decanter because it was widely recognized by women at that time. Since its Glass smell the male end of top that goes in female end most purfumes will soak in those slices made from the air tight seal and you can smell them if cleaned it could still be there just set the piece in from of houses vent about 8"-12"away once warm to touch smell again the heal will expand glass on the micro level
and push out the smell if soak in cleaner it may no long smell even if heated(can use hair dryer on WARM till making your hand swear be very careful with hairdrayer it gets really hot fast may hurt your piece home vent is 98% safe)

Thanks, guys!

French perfume bottle, circa 1920's!  That makes sense--the piece has both classic elements (i.e., the stopper), and more modern deco elements (i.e., the linear cage around the bottle), and Art Deco came about in France around that time, I believe.  Could this maybe be classified as a transition piece?  It seems to have a foot in both worlds.  Another example: it has modern, machined elements...but the bent wire was attached by hand, and the spacing isn't perfect.

As for where I got it, would you believe Value Village for $3?  They sure missed this one!
