Antique Scales
« on: March 11, 2013, 06:21:24 pm »
Hello, I am new to collecting and selling antiques. I picked up these 3 scales (25lb, 30lb, and 50lb). I am wondering what they are worth. I bought them with a bundle of things but I probably have $12-$15 into them (for the three of them).

I am also wondering how old they are. The 50lb weight says 1891-1892 at the top. Is that the year?

Any information is appreciated on these scales!

Thanks

I have had a couple of these. I think they are for weighing fish, but I am really not positive. I have a modern version in my tackle bag. The date would be correct.

You can check ebay for Vintage fish scale and see what they are selling for !! Not asking price, just those that have bids and are selling !!  I have needed that 50 pounder a time or two !!

Well now, in the US, just about every rural household/farmer had a set of scales like those. Cause everything from  meat to potatoes were bought, sold or traded "by the pound". Eggs by the dozen, though.  ;D

Right on. Thanks a lot guys. I already sold the big 50 lb one. Should have asked for an extra 5 or 10 bucks out of that one. It was nicer as a decoration in my room, then the $20 I got:P
