champagne glass
« on: March 13, 2013, 11:39:50 am »
Hi all I've bought a glass for the other half. I love it so that's one thing, hopefully he will and that's the main thing but....I wondered if anyone knows anything about it?

Sold as crystal, 1880s. Has etched images, 2 roses, a thistle, clovers and something else floral and some letters. You're thought please. Oh and its about 5 1/2 inches high.

I've got a centerpiece of brilliant cut crystal from Germany that looks a lot like this, only bigger. It's reputed to be from ca. 1880 and has no discernable marks.

That's all I've got for you.

Cup shaped glasses were introduced around 1830...and were popular up to around 1860...when thin glass came into fashion...
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

It could be..as what i found..says that cup shaped glasses probably came in in 1830....then as i,ve said they fell out of fashion around 1860...so i would think that if yours was pitched somewhere in between...you would,nt far wrong....as for make...it could be Waterford..your general location might help to pin it...

"spent every weekend in Portobello Rd"

Doing the Portobello Shuffle with the Pink Fairies? Too obscure a reference?

Anyway, I was told that my centerpiece was ca. 1880, and it's shaped almost exactly like that glass. I'd take 1880 as a date for both, although earlier would be a bonus. ;)
