antique gold? frog with stones or beads
« on: March 14, 2013, 12:57:01 am »
???Hi, new to this. I found this frog in my great grandmothers abandoned home in Mexico.I ve been trying to clean it since it was covered in dust and tar but its still a little dirty, the gold color wasn't noticeable before. I dont know what its made of or what the small stones are but some are missing. i didnt see any markings but it has indentation marks around the edges on the bottom as if it was shaped by hand. just looking for any general info thanks..

The blue/green stones are turquoise...and the others look like amber....and i,m thinking the metal might be gold..because why go to all the trouble of fitting all these little pieces of Turquoise and amber into a piece of degradeable metal like brass ..I,m sure the others on here will be able to add more....
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Does a magnet stick to it?

Something about it....

It is a beautiful piece!

Could also be sheet brass !!  Needs to be checked !! Just don`t believe anyone that says its brass then offers to "take it off your hands" !!  Look on ebay for a test kit and check it yourself !!

Wullie, you obviously haven't lived in Mart's and my neck-of-the-woods.  The imports from Mexico can have some amazing craftsmanship...and be very little cost new!  We get inundated by the hundreds of thousands of items!  Unfortunately the majority are in poverty in Mexico so the craftsmanship can go so cheaply.

I don,t think I,d want to live in Mart,s neck of the woods....She does,nt have broadband....she,s got snakes....and there,s no NHS......
