Last but not least the makers mark which is an upside down H.S. on the back of the seat...sorry it is a bit fuzzy...

Even without the pics just the name smokers chair brought up alot more relevent pics and info...

So before I get more info I am going to guess and put it here for posterity (or posteriority if I am wrong:) ).

I think they are like 1890-1910,manufactered but perhaps hand asembled, English...Not sure on wood, my father was good at that but not me...

Wood is most likely Oak,..from the design and coupled with the metal support...I,d say late 1800,s..its definitely a smokers chair see my link..on my last post...Windsor chairs were similar...but,i,d bet my boots on this being a smokers, over here in UK,especially in parts of England...single chairs such as this do extremely well...and having looked at it in detail...it has a charm about it....that had i found it...it would not find its way into my hungry woodburner...but would enjoy supporting my rather large arse..... ;D...

From what I can see it appears to be oak !! Late 1800`s to 1910 !!  Nice chair and well worth keeping (as-is btw) !!

Na...this was a Birch....
