Old Chest
« on: January 12, 2005, 09:48:50 pm »
I have a three drawer chest with a tilting mirror that is approximately 125 years old. On the top of the chest there is a small (9 inch x12 inch x 1inch) removable marble insert that slides in and out like a drawer.  When it is out you can see the contents of the top drawer. I am curious as to what is the purpose of this marble slab.

aside from the fact.it's and eastlake. the marble was there to prevent water damage to the wood. it was used for the bowl &pitcher.
