« on: April 06, 2013, 06:13:00 am »
Have you ever seen a grabber like this,, ???  All it says is "Fish Grabber" and Made in USA !!  Found these at small garage sale !! This guy was a Doctor and a friend of ours before he died a couple of years ago !! Had reels that would make your head swim !!  He loved to fish for stripers !!  Also picked up these filet knives !!

I saw similar styled grabbers in the fishing department at Walmart. Most of my needs for those could be handled with an old pickle tong. ;D

I have seen the smaller size that work the same but this one will handle a  5 lb  or more  channel cat easily !! And that's what I need it for !!  Just haven't seen this design !!
This guy had a lot of the big Penn reels, most all are older ones !!  Ambassador, Pfleuger reels, and others !!

Whats a stinging cat ??  Never heard of that one !!  Some call Channel cats "singing cats" because of the sounds they make when trying to get them off the hook !!

I have a filet knife identical to the wood handled one. It's in on a kitchen cabinet shelf right now cause the wife uses it whenever she needs a really sharp knife for whatever.

And No, I have never seen a "fish grabber" like that one.

But here below is a picture of the "grabber" my dad used to grab hold of those big Muskies. The Elk and Little Kanawha Rivers in central WV are noted for BIG Muskies.

Not so much in the LK anymore because the river bed has filled in resulting in it being warmer ..... and quite shallow in many places ..... because of the flood control dam they built 3+- miles up-river from Burnsville.

This one is aluminum and the mouth opens to 6" !!   Its 9" total length That black handled knife and the Wood handled Finnish knife I got for $5. ea.,, Both are razor sharp !!  The black handled one is currently selling for $40. on ebay,, Or at least there were two that were yesterday !! It has a grabber built into the case which is just hard plastic !!  You just unsnap it to use the grabber,, also has a line cutter and built in whet rock !!  Right handy little instrument !!  Its called The Fishermans Solution by Alcas !!

HA, one can  buy a new wood handled one for $14
 http://www.shopping.com/Normark-Rapala-Fish-n-Fillet-Knives-7-5-Inch/info

But I guess if one was in the "fish fileting" business then the "status symbol" would warrant one of those $100+- ones. ;D ;D

And unless that "whet rock" is, or equivalent to, a diamond embedded one ..... I wouldn't want it or the knife.

Ya really need a "steel" for keeping a filet knife sharp.

The black handled one was selling for $40. not the Rapala!! Yes those little Rapala`s are cheap !! Mine is the 9 inch blade !!  Don`t worry,, I have a steel !! But sometimes I don't carry my kitchen with me !!  Its a very fine rock and should do quite nicely !! I bought them to use not to look at !!

I grab striped bass and largemouth with my thumb in their mouth. With bluefish I used pliers on the hook and shake them off because they bite fingers to the bone and are aggressive even out of water. I usually release them. The others get picked up in a net or gaffed. I never used a grabber or have I ever seen one like that.

ahhh fellow striper hunter....
Check this out... Probably at least 200 years old based on the amount of garbage that was in the dumpster around it.

I do too on bass but I learned better than to try that on these catfish !! You will have no skin left on your thumb !! Going to try the grabber on the 5+ lb fish in our pool !!

C'mon Mart. Don't you duck and grab them like in that TV show. They have no trouble pulling those 20 pounders out of the holes by the mouth. They just wiggle their fingers and wait to get bit.
