Need advice on age and how much to sell for
« on: April 09, 2013, 06:26:56 pm »
I am looking to sell an antique oak dinning set (table and 6 chairs) as well as a china cabinet.  Chairs need some work, they are a bit rickety and a few of the cross braces are broken.  The table is in great shape, could probably just use a lacquer on surface.  The china cabinet is perfect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to sell them but not lose my shirt.

if you are in the UK...then i,m afraid your table/chairs...are not worth much...up here in Scotland....think firewood price...as for the display cabinet...it has more value...as it is a break from the norm...i,d say in the region 150/200
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

On the US side of it up here in ct it is hard to sell dining room tables and chairs in beat up condition but the display cabnet looks like it would go. Same range as wull said probably like 150ish
Check this out... Probably at least 200 years old based on the amount of garbage that was in the dumpster around it.

These don't really look to be antique.

Agree with the others on price here in Missouri -$150 or so for the set.

Looks to be a late 40`s era Queen Anne reproduction !!  I am in Texas and oak sets do a bit better here !! Around $250. for all !!  But I would try to repair and tighten up those chairs if you can !! It will help your sale !! You might look on Kijji (I think that's your site similar to Craigslist) and see what oak sets are selling for in your area !!  Could be more than our prices !!

Looks to me like a typical Canadiana Oak dining set, c1920-1930.  These used to sell for several thousand dollars, but I see them now for $500-800, although the china cabinet is the more desirable piece & it's good that you have all the leaves.  If you can get a hold of a reprint of an old Eaton's catalog from the time, you will probably find your set.  GG
ps, love the table decoration
