help identifying vase

Please can you help me? The vase shown in the pictures on the link below was my greatgrandmother's. It's the only thing in the family we have that has been passed along the generations and whilst we don't think it is worth anything but sentimental value, our builders smashed it and my sister and I would like to find out something about it so we know whether to claim on their insurance. I've had a search online and not found anything and I can't see any markings on it to give me any clues. Any hints would be appreciated.

Hi Sandra;

Sorry to say that your GGrandma's vase probably didn't have a great amount of value (other than sentimental) prior to the accident. Most likely it was one of a pair at one time, and may date back to the early 1900's. It would still be worth filing a claim for a realistic amount, in my opinion.

As your builder will no doubt have had liability Insurance...then..f illing a clam should be no problem...then its just a matter of putting a price on sentiment...thats the hard part...

I hate when people break things. I am sorry. It is as stated by Rauville. A late Victorian or early 1900s vase. There were a pair and are transfer decorated not painted. Probably Austrian but could be German or English. Value for one would be less than 100.00. I would estimate closer to 50.00 in today's sluggish market. Shoot for the higher number as the insurance company will probably just pay without much proof on a small claim.

Thank you for the responses. It was the pair they smashed, but the other one was too broken to photograph clearly.

That is hugely helpful and we'll try and work out a cost plus some sentiment.
