Four Porcelain Japanese Hand-Painted Tiles
« on: April 23, 2013, 07:28:19 pm »
Hello again,

I have four hand-painted Japanese tiles that are pretty interesting, but I'm not sure about them. Were they just decorative or something more? Any idea when they were likely made or value? They measure about 5.5" x 2.5" each and are about .25" thick. A couple of them have chipped corners and a few stray marks on them. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Tony

Thanks for the research. Those actually are my tiles. Haha. I've listed them online for that price, but haven't had much luck. I listed them without knowing what they are in hopes that people would recognize what they are and be interested in them. But since that hasn't happened, I thought I'd come here. Thanks for passing that along, though!  :)

Unless these tiles, are ultra rare..then i,m afraid that the two chipped ones are holding the other two back, whenever anyone looks at them..they don,t see the non chipped ones, they only see the damaged ones...and they will assume that the others will have flaws,..if the other two are undamaged and flawless, then i feel you,d have a much better chance selling them...than you ever will the four...

Most likely these tiles are from the late 70`s or 80`s !!  There was a huge decorating trend in oriental style back then !!  I have had a bunch of these with similar pics !! I remodeled a bedroom back then and used some of these tiles !! Mine were in sets of three each and in frames for wall art !!

And as they are double sided..they could be hung mid room, or if you got fed up looking at the same pic...you could turn them round....
