Anyone know anything about these?
« on: April 29, 2013, 01:14:20 pm »
My boyfriend is a bit of a furniture hoarder, yes, that's what we will call it.  I just would like to know what era they are from and a value.  We are not interested in selling anything right now but just seeking information.

Picture 1 is a dresser we just picked up two days ago.  Someone started a restoration it appears but weren't very skilled at it.  It has no markings on it and still has the original wooden wheels on the feet.

Picture 2 is one of four of these chairs we have.  We have two without arms and two with I believe.  Again no markings and we are actually looking to sell these soon so having a value would be very helpful.

Picture 3 is one of two of these chairs we have.  Again no markings but we are absolutely in love with these and would like to know what they are so that we might be able to find more of them.

Picture 4 is a vanity my daughter had to have.  We believe is from the 1940s.  We did a little reconditioning on it and it turned out beautiful for her room.  Just don't mind her clutter as she is a teenager  :)

I will post another post with the rest that we have right now in the house.

This is a pair of dressers that we picked up at a garage sale.  Story that goes with them is that they were the guy's grandmother's.  She received them as a graduation gift in the 1930s.  No markings on these either but again my boyfriend and daughter fell in love with them so it was a done deal.  The taller of the two has compartments in the top drawer and a ceder lined bottom drawer.  I have some closer pics of hardware if anyone needs to see that to help out with the value.

The dresser in #1 looks like mid 19th century. Value in this condition -does it have a new top?- might be around $200 in Missouri.

Picture 2 looks like a dining room chair from the 1940s value maybe $25.00.

Picture 3 is a ladder back chair looks like ca. 1920s. It could be a bit later. It's unusual - maybe $50.00 or a bit higher around here.

The vanity is beautiful and you've probably nailed it on the year. It may be 1930s. Value maybe $150 in these parts.

Thanks ghopper.  That dresser does not have a new top, the previous owner sanded it a bit much.

I'd say you're right on the decade for the second set. Value is maybe $100-$125 apiece.

Yes !!  Dial up still exists and I have it !!
Can`t see enough of the first one to tell much about style !! Always need pics of the entire item !!
#2 is a Sheraton/Hepplewhite shield back chair and is probably 30`s era !! If you have a set of 4 that's great !! They have a classic style that sells pretty well !! Usually about $40. each if in excellent condition !!
The tall ladderback might be 20`s  but this style was also reproduced in the 60`s !! Would need to see underneath to get a better idea !!
The dresser is a waterfall style from the 30`s !!
Can`t see the others well enough to say much except they appear to be 30ish !!

Thanks cogar, now maybe I might be able to find out more info on that one.  That is what spurred me to join this forum in the first place  :)

As for the one you are all calling a ladder back,  I have a set of cherry ladder backs that are much wider than these... would this one still be considered the same even with the back being about half the width as my others?

Also as far as other pics go, if I have to put up a photobucket album, just let me know if that would be easier.  :)
