Old Duet Figurine, Hummel/Goebel, other?
« on: May 26, 2013, 09:16:31 am »
This is a recent purchase of a Duet Figurine of a young girl and a bird that I can't find anywhere. There are other Duet figurines that I have found but nothing like this one.

The Duet figurine is about 4 1/4 Inches in height and about 3 Inches wide. It has "Duet" painted on the bottom of it and another small blue paint mark which is probably just an artifact that got on the bottom when it was painted.

Does anyone know if this is an old Hummel/Goebel Figurine or is it some other maker? Also, does anyone have an idea of when and where the figurine may have been made?

Thanks!
Kevin

Nope not a Hummel  I have over 75 of them and that is not one! A genuine M.I. Hummel figurine must have a Facsimile M. I. Hummel signature INCISED  (pressed in and in her writing) somewhere on the figure or edge of the base. Did not see one.  Plus I have never seen such poorly done bottom eyelashes on any genuine piece.  Sorry

Thanks Wendy177 for the Hummel  information. And I agree about the eyes. Looks like the verdict is it's not a Hummel.

Thanks all....

Although, I do have this old broken figurine I recently purchased that I'm fairly certain is a Hummel without the M. I. Hummel signature. It's numbered "FF124/1 A", perhaps an early interim mark. It also has "Germany" stamped on it and I think it has the Crown Mark TMK-1. Is this an old original Hummel?

As Wendy already said above: every Hummel bears the inmold "M.J. Hummel" signature. There is no exception, simply because it was part of the contract between Goebel and the Convent. Issuing Hummel figures without the signature would have meant cheating on the Convent and you can imagine how that would have been taken as the area was strictly catholic. It would have ruined Goebel. That is the reason even firing or glazing tests carry the impressed Hummel signature, Goebel did not want to push their luck.

With the way Hummels have lost their value, I would think that this is an empy pursuit anyway.
