large meissen group?????
« on: February 02, 2005, 10:41:19 am »
:( i would like to know if anyone can help me identify this group i have inherited from my husbands grandparents ,it originally came from an antique shop they owned, they are now deceased and we would like to know if this is a real meissen piece........ it is titled  LES PETITES PARRAINS, with a group of 7 people on a  large base, one person is a baby in the arms of a maid ,their are 2 coach men one holding the door of a coach open inside the coach is a signiture we cannot make out.All the people are leaving through what appears to be a tall arch i am assuming is a church exit there is a small dog  and flowers all around the base also a gift .A tall elegently dressed lady stands smiling at two smaller people holding hands a man and a woman i assume are the baby's parents, they are coming down the steps toward the coach. On the back of the platform are blue crossed swords, i cannot see any painters marks.please someone anyone, i have searched high and low and begged for help but have had no response from anywhere.I appreciate any help just point me in a direction,i need to know if i should have this insured...... thankyou ,,,,,,....laurie

laurie' you asked a complicated question, with out a simple answer.best bet is a hand's on appraisal.the crossed swords have been copied by many different company's.

 Thanks for the suggestion i think we will take it in and have it looked at by an expert , we did take it to an antique show and were told they think it is worth alot possibly as much as 50,000 if indeed it is a meissen with a signiture in the coach but the evaluation costs only
$15.00and i'm not so sure they were real appraisers or really knew what they were talking about although when we walked in all the appraisers came to us ,they knew what we were carrying.or think they knew, anyway i will definatly let you all know how i make outbe it good or bad, i do know that crossed swords are copied alot but also know that our piece is very old and very beautiful,.. after the appraisal i will send picturesso you can see what i mean thankyou again for your help........laurie
