Is this Unanimous 13 Declaration document real?
« on: May 31, 2013, 07:15:40 pm »
Hi, I was wondering if someone knows or could help me find someone local that can tell if this document is real. The original replicas are worth a great deal of money and I would like to know if I have one. I know you can age paper and this paper is just about to crumble..plus it "smells" very old as well. I live in central FL..any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay

Can you take some better and closer pics !! This one is way too small to tell anything about it !!  Need some close ups with good light so we can look at the paper !!

Here's an article that discusses some of the copies and their actual dimensions. Does yours match any of them?

I will take better pictures with my Nikon D5100 tomorrow. Here are some closer pictures using my cell phone..this document has been stored in a book for a super long time.

Not sure if it was for sure stored in a book but with this dark outline I figured that this was the case.

You still haven't given us the dimensions. With the margin being lighter it would have been more likely framed

In England there are copies of John Speed maps which look similar. " Aged " reproductions. They're also smaller than the originals.

This appears to be much smaller than the editions i've found online

This was found in the trash of a retirment community..and about a month ago in the same trash my mom found 73 antique wallace rose point utensils(real not reproductions) which I sold on ebay for $2k. She has made many great finds here. Almost positive this is very very old..it is just about to fall apart(crispy lol) and smells the part, I havent been able to find any as small as this though..which is'nt a very good sign.

Going from what i read here

http://autographmagazine.com/2009/07/rare-copies-of-the-declaration-of-independence/

Also, this is the DOI - it will have been copied many times since it was first published. It's also something that needs to be appraised first hand.

Stone printing

Quote
Facsimiles that look like the Stone printing, but are substantially smaller in size, are later generation copies. Unfortunately, they have little monetary or historic value.

Caution before optimism in these cases  ;D
