Simmons 1960's couch?
« on: June 04, 2013, 05:57:18 pm »
I found this gem at goodwill, and am wondering the age and how much it is worth.

I can't find any model numbers on it, just the "109" stamped on each of the inserts under the cushions.

The best I have is that is is from the 1960's based on the logo patents and style of couch. It is not a hide-a-bed, which seems to complicated things.

It is in impeccable condition, no stains, rips, tears, or broken parts. Absolutely lovely pattern that seems to be slightly less vivid in certain locations, but it isn't noticeable unless you really look hard. Both the arm covers are still present as well (although i love the arm shape and wouldn't cover it up!).

Please let me know if you think it is worth anything and how much! Or even what year it is from.

Welcome to the forum !!  Simmons applied for trademark reg, for "Comfortorc" 4-22-58 and was approved so 60`s is probably right !!  Are the back cushions attached to the cover at top ??

Yes they are! Any  idea of it's worth? I can't seem to find any for sale  as a bench mark.

Yes, I  know that still exist I  just thought a 60s  sofa in perfect shape might be worth something.

I  live near Sacramento,  California. I  didn't pay  much for  it. I  was planning on keeping it unless it's worth a  lot.

We,d all like to think, that whatever we,ve got..is worth oodles of $$..or ££..but unfortunately ...it does,nt work that way...its only worth what someones prepared to pay....you,ve said that it did,nt cost much...therefore... lets say, you doubled your money..would that make you sell it....If i could double my money on everything i,ve ever bought...I,d be as happy as the proverbial...pig in shit....£1 makes 2...2 makes 4...simples....

You aren't being very helpful,  just because I  didn't pay  much doesn't mean it isn't worth much,  and I  never thought it's worth tons of money.  I'd appreciate only  helpful answers to my original questions.

I,m being realistic...its a 40/50.. odd year old settee...thats no doubt had hundreds of ass,s sat on it...and you you,re expecting  it to be worth ???...from where i,m sitting...its worth £20/30,..tops...and even at that i,m being generous....Last year we bought a S/h, leather sofa with a leather footstool,...total cost new,in excess of £1350...we paid £30 at an auction...see link to sofa...

Different geographic areas sell differently !! What sells in NY does not sell well in Texas sometimes !!  By asking the price you paid,, that helps us keep up with sales and the average prices in a given area !!  The value of your sofa would probably be $100. to $150. in most places !!  Recovered in a fabric less busy and more appropriate for today,,around $250. to $300. !!  Again the value depends on what mid century furniture sells for where you are !!

Right. This seems to be a near-universal fallacy. "If I own it,it must be worth the Max!"

"I collect antiques because they're beautiful."
