Mart, I really miss Field Corn.  These days the corn is so engineered to be so doggone sweet.  I just can't find the regular, old fashioned corn!  Even the farmer's markets here have the really sweet kind!  :(

Been trying to find regular cornmeal lately....and all I can find is enriched.  (If you mix cornmeal and grated garlic together and mix into soil it is a natural fungicide.  The mulch we bought at Lowe's this year had lots of weeds and crud in it...so where I mulched is more work than where I didn't....so taking the last 25 bags back.  Luckily only put out 30!)  Going to order it by the trailer load again...cheaper as well.

Ya best be careful about some sources of "bagged" mulch because it could have termites in it.

Well, KC You are still out of luck !!  You can`t find the old fashioned yellow dent and what is sold as yellow dent is a hybrid that we tried but had that black fungus that they like in Mexico !! Could have made a killing selling that stuff !!  It is in the same class as truffles !!  There is a guy not far from here that has his own portable mill and makes stone ground meal !!  He is at all of the local festivals and at the Sulphur Springs Dairy show !!  I will see if I can track him down for you !!  I have used it and its great stuff !!  You could order by mail I bet !!  May have a website !!

Mart & Cogar, I went to the Shreveport, LA farmers market this morning...and low and behold there was an older guy that was selling fresh ground cornmeal!!!!!!!!!!!  For a great price!  He was a character (said his daughters won't use it and only use Jiffy corn mix! LOL).

He was horrified when he heard I was going to use it for the yard and encouraged me to make cornbread first!  LOLOL

I bought enough to do the yard and eat plenty!!!

Thanks for the resources...I use lotsa' cornmeal!  Catfish fries, spoon bread, fried green tomatoes,  etc....

well seeing as how...they only sell red tomatoes in the shops....they don,t do green ones....i,m going to have a hard job getting hold of them....mind you...nothing stopping me having fried red tomatoes...done to a green tom recipe....they,ll no doubt still taste the same.....might be even better seeing as how....the green ones are only half grown....or does it not work that way.....

BigWullie, When I was about 14 yrs.old and was at my friends house, and her mom made them with red tomatoes and they were great! Every now and then I'll make them, since they are fried. Just buy tomatoes that aren't so ripe.

HA,  ;D ;D long time ago I paid $25 to set up at an inside fleamarket in the local NG armory. .... lots n' lots of "lookers" but, literally, the only one selling anything was the man with his "fresh-ground" cornmeal.

KC, maybe this would serve your purpose.
