Amazing window found in a barn
« on: June 27, 2013, 10:25:44 pm »
Hello I just now joined this forum because I happened across this cool old window in an old barn I was cleaning out. I'd love some information and, if possible, value of it. Thanks!

My boat is rocking. I think it is really unusual.

Looks like new glass put into an old window frame.  They bought a large piece of glass & cut the 3 panels, inserting them in the same order as the glass came.  It's interesting, but not antique.  GG

Thanks for the responses! I agree it is quite unusual. It is roughly 4'x3' I would say. I'll measure it when I get back to town. And at the risk of sounding argumentative, GG, the glass has that wavy look to it that comes with old glass. But I am no expert. Thanks again everyone.

gg27 may be right, however, looking at the perfect flow of the slag pattern it would either be one piece behind the dividers or they would have had to cut a perfect strip of glass off the edges. If it was simply cut in three the pattern would emerge on the opposite side of the divider at the same width as when it ended. This was no amateur if it is indeed three panels.

Check the thickness of the glass and look at the nails & such that were used in the facing !! They did make marbleized glass late 1800`s,,hard to tell if this is that type though !!  Can you take a pic of the other side too ??

It reminds me of Nailsea Glass. This is early blown glass.

I love the window. I would clean it up and take all the old paint off. Then I would use a stain and some polyurethane and hang it in a large window.

I personally like the old paint. I have an old single light window here from a craftsman cottage. Not sure what I am going to do with it but it has great sash ropes to hang it from. Maybe I will put a picture of the sea in it. I always wanted an ocean view.

I like it and it can float and/or rock my boat any day!  :)

When you get back to it...please post a close up of the back side, nails, etc.

Jury is out on the age of this.  I know the church I grew up going to (over 130 years old) had window pieces like this.

I agree that it must be one large piece that was trimmed over or put behind the trim work...or they did one heck-of-a-job piecing it!  But...if it came from a church (nice building) they would have taken the time to book match it!
