I was involved in the field of architecture for years, and still remember that a window is made up of "Rails, Stiles, Muntins and Lites". Those vertical dividers would be the muntins. I would say this is an example showing an experienced glazier's hand in the making.

Looks like a metal fin has been attached , prob by the manufacturer , which would cause me to ponder the age on this one  .... the style/design of the wooden stops for the panes are as those still produced & used today (& for decades prior) .
I'd assume that the wood is 'paint grade' & wouldn't look as cool as one might hope ... but a pic of the I/S side might just serve me some crow for that opinion .

A bummer that the sill has been broken off , but could be replaced &/or trimmed off (as for a 'display-only') !
Around here , one of this size & state , they'll charge 50-75 USD .

I like the look of the glass , as a semi-obsure pattern .

I agree that it must be one large piece that was trimmed over or put behind the trim work...or they did one heck-of-a-job piecing it!

Right, it is obvious that it originally was a single piece of glass, ....... and either it still is a single piece that was edge-cut to fit the opening behind the 2 verticle stiles ..... or was cut into 3 pieces as replacements for the original clear glass.

That is not a cheap piece of glass if purchased and the window is not an expensive one, so it seems to me there is a "disconnect" there somewhere.

Maybe a glass worker brought it home and installed it in the window jam. ??? ???

It is 3 pieces of glass and the nail implies 19th century.

the nail, might be 19th century....but that wooden frame is most certainly not, it has 20th century written all over it.....i,ve looked at that nail again, and am now not convinced that it is 19th century....it looks more like a gang nail,....i.e.one that is fired from an airnailer....like the nails you get in pallet construction....
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

I will have to agree with Wullie on this !! Although nail does look older I don`t think it is !!  I think window is 1930 or after and was likely an old church window !!  Without looking at the glass in person would be almost impossible to guess at its age but I have seen similar windows here in the south !! Mostly in small churches where stained glass was unaffordable !!  If it were me I would check locally at the historical society for its origin !!

Thanks for all of you all's thoughts. I guess I should've taken it to the Antique Archeology in Nashville  :D

Seeing the pictures, and in your much more qualified opinion than my own, would selling it for $100 dollars be unfair?

A close-up picture of the heads of the nails used for holding the frame together (at each corner) should resolve the quandary.

Under the heading of …. REPLACEMENT WINDOWS … @ this link: http://www.buildingconservation.com/articles/windows/thermal.htm  …. you will find a diagram along with the following description, to wit:

Typical mid-19th century casement detail: The single rebate construction and the narrow glazing bar produce finer details. Sills were usually of stone or render, as the near horizontal surface inevitably collects water and decays rapidly

Or, at this link …. http://www.dalzielbarn.com/pages/TheBarn/Windows&Doors.html .... you will find the following picture and notation, to wit:

The windows themselves are from the 19th-century but not original to the structure.

There is No quandary,....you have your opinion, and we have ours.....but from the amount of info that you are digging up.....it appears to me...that it has to be cogars way...or no way.....i can show you pics of nails that might look like they were made last century...but were in fact made yesterday....
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Who is "we"?  You and Avril?  :)  Who got your tail feathers ruffled today?

I am leaning towards Cogar's way!!!

AS PREVIOUSLY STATED...Looks alot like the windows you would see here in the South/Mid Eastern areas of the US!  Still betting from a church or "better-off-than-others" home!

Please let us know if you find out anything from the place in Nashville.

Where are you located?

You responded back even faster than I expected...and you didn't go "off the deep end" (a saying in the South).

Not at all unfair if someone is willing to pay it.  I would find out more first.  If you can date the glass...just the glass itself someone would pay that much for it!!!  My neck of the woods...decorators and collectors would pay more.
