How to tell is Qianlong vase is real? or replica?
« on: June 29, 2013, 07:42:12 pm »
How do I tell if my Qianlong Vase is the real deal?  and what it's worth?  I found the following page (link below) on a vase that looks just like mine and almost crapped my pants.  Any help and professional advise is appreciated.

I am selling for a relative of mine.  She's had it for over 20 years.  I will see if she remembers where she got it.

Most of those that bring huge money are well documented !!  The one in your link was one of a known pair !!

My opinion is that it's later and in the Qianlong style and that the mark, though very similar, confirms it.

This is a Qianlong mark

Almost identical to yours, but almost. But the mark can be misleading

Then there's the style of decoration ( your is similar but less refined ), the colour, the base

However, i'd advise taking some better quality pics in natural light or taking it to an auction house to confirm.

That it looks similar to the one you linked to is not unsual - there will have been many produced in that style - vines, peony and shou characters are very common on these vases.

I'm with ippy ...
the style & finish (and hallmark) is as in "after" Qianlong ... meaning 'done in the style of' .... I've seen quite a few lo-end repros around here , but yours appears sorta like the types that were sold in a bit higher-end furnishing/decorating stores .

Like Ipcress , have the opinions tested by an auction-house , if you wish .
Sure look like 1960's thru 1990's to my eye though ...way too uniform & not so old , dang it (IMO) .

Many of those were reproduced in late 20`s and bring a fair price,, but like was said,, take it to a reputable auction house !!  If they offer to buy it for a few dollars,, you may have a good one !!
