up high
« on: July 06, 2013, 06:17:46 pm »
that is the title of this art I bought.  But I will give you all info I rec'd so maybe that will help me find who is the author

I'm so glad you love her. I do too. I wish I would have been home but my sister called and asked me to help her pick out some furniture. I just want to tell you alittle bit about the print. I had her framed and the person who framed her told me she has never seen a rounded corner matte and she had no knowledge of how they would have done it back then since there was no machinery to do it. She told me I should never remove that matte. Since the color of the matte didn't go with my decor, I had a new matte put over it. That is why you will see two mattes. When I bought the print at a antique store, there was a thick felt with a rope attached to swing over the print. I believe it was to hang on a picture rail that some old houses had. It is also numbered and titled "High Up" on the back of the print and when I had it framed the framer wrote it on the back of the frame. There is no signature, I had always wished there was because I tried to look it up on line and found nothing. I had it appraised about six years ago and just the print alone was worth $225.00. I believe it is from around the the early 1900's. That is all I know about the print. So enjoy and know she is special. Thank you.

Wow! Its very beautiful!  Nice piece!  One thing though, I'm not sure why this is in the questions forum?

Hmm, at the very earliest in the time range it could have been painted from 1824 on.  The year of 1824, I believe was when balloons were invented (haha) so that may help find your artist.  It also appears to be a kind of classical realism type painting.

bigwull-I think you may be right-all my research was for "angel..balloon'

Callie--truly noted the year balloons were first made -- I wondered if it was from new mexico with all the air balloons back in the day--

she remains a mystery to me and thanks

ps-the previous owner also told me her eyes follow you---and I swear they do....look at the pics her eyes are really beautiful

the origin of the card is Germany...therefore ...it might also be the same for your print...

The concept of the card and your painting are the same, however the card is a photograph which was hand tinted...  It could possibly be the same artist or group of artists, but I'm doubting it :/ They hold a striking resemblance though, which is wonderful bigwull.
