Need help with a Secretary Desk
« on: July 08, 2013, 12:47:39 pm »
Can anyone tell me some more about this secretary desk with bookcase top, the company, and so forth? It has a brass signature plaque that is engraved

"Georgian Furnishings Co
Hand Made in Seoul Capital of Korea
New York London and Paris."

Measurements are 41" wide, 21" deep, 85" tall and the desk surface is 30" high. Hand painted raised

Thank you.

Seoul is now the capital of South Korea so that would date it from the 1940's or earlier. Can we see the feet? Furniture from Asia is tough for me because they often used hand methods there that machines replaced in the West

The black one is a pretty much identical desk but is a better close up than what I have of the red one.

Good one. Doesn't Seoul go by South Korea since the war?

That gallery is pretty well known !! I would say that price isn`t far off if yours in in good condition !! Theirs had a couple of small problems !!  And it sold last year so time wise its OK !! Some oriental items have dropped considerably but haven`t noticed furniture taking a tumble !!

Kaminski Auctioneers in Beverly, MA, sold an almost identical one in 2007 for $2,500.

I say almost because that had bun feet.

It's Queen Anne style furniture that is painted or japanned.

Yes. An authentic one could be £40,000 or more
