Old Carved Jade Vases?
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:12:54 am »
This is a pair of old vases that I purchased a couple of days ago which I think are Chinese carved jade but I'm not sure. I've looked around on the net for ones like them but haven't located any.

The vases measures about 4 3/4 Inches in Height, about 5 1/4 Inches in Width and about 2 Inches in Depth and have no maker marks on them. They both look old and have condition issues. There is leaves, berries, vines and what looks like a squirrel on each one.

Does anyone know what these vases are carved from or made of, how old they are, where they were made and perhaps a ballpark value on them since I have really no idea (I usually don't ask this)?

Thanks!
Kevin

I agree,  from the pictures they look like they could be bone, but not ivory.

Thanks everyone, looks like the verdict is in. I was thinking it could be soapstone too but it didn't have that talc feel bigwull mentions and it had somewhat of a greenish look. Not a tremendous amount of value in soapstone I suppose. Not sure what they used to color the stone. They do seem very old though...
