A picture of the plug and of the light bulb socket(s) with the shade removed would help.

I was just curious if there was something special about its rating of -- 650W , 250 Volts, ... but if it has been rewired then that makes my question null and void. Thus I now have to assume its original electrical components were rated to withstand that amount of current.

GE apparently made it for both domestic and export, ....... to wit:

Quote
Mixed 230V/400V Three-phase electric power (common in northern and central Europe) or 230V single-phase based household wiring.
