Check out my sink! :)
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:33:16 pm »
Hello all!  I was wondering what this old sink might be worth?  It's a Kohler, was in our house until we remodeled recently.  We were told that its the original sink that was installed when the house was built it 1910.

I'm really glad I found these forums!  WE have been interested in antiques for a long time, cant believe I never searched the web for a community until now!
Thanks in advance!

Check out this site, Yours has some serious bowl damage but if looking to sell I would contact them to see if they purchase also!

This is a great sink.

To buy a new one even similar to this today is well over $1,000.  (We are remodeling our kitchen and a regular double sink would have cost us $900.)

Even selling it damaged in certain areas is no big deal.  They have refinishers that do a great job.  You might even want to look into it to get an estimate to help you to sell it!

Nice sink! Here's the one I cleaned up. Fortunately the porcelain was still intact on mine so it was a different situation than yours. I haven't installed mine yet, that is still in the works!

It was a BIG project that took hours. I spent an entire weekend scrubbing. I used hydrogen peroxide and a pumice stone. It was a ton of work, but the result was beautiful in the end.

Thanks, just use Comet or Bon Ami first to get any dirt out of the way, then work on the stains very slowly, gently and carefully using the hydrogen peroxide and rubbing with the pumice stone. Rinse periodically with water and just keep working away at it. Plan on it taking a LOT of time. This is only for porcelain sinks and won't work for sinks with other finishes and can scratch sinks made of other materials. My 1909 sink above is porcelain over cast iron.

This also works very well for minor rust stains around faucets and drains in sinks and tubs!

You can see some additional pics of my sink as it progressed and read the discussions about cleaning in the Projects section:

"Farm house sinks" are becoming very popular here (USA). They look fantastic with legs, like this one.
