CWT Pocket Watch Sign
« on: July 16, 2013, 08:57:49 pm »
I recently bought a sign that is in the shape of a pocket watch. It has the markings CWT Co.  Modern on it, which I believe is the Chicago Watch Tool Company.  I was told the sign hung on the main street of a small town in South Dakota around 1910.  The sign is made of cast and has curved glass faces with a painted time of 8:17 -. It has two bulbs on the inside to light it up.  I am having trouble finding any info on this ..   HELP

Jewelers-watch repairers began doing a booming business after the railroads forced the establishment of Standard Time Zones in the US and Canada ….. and thus the reason for using those watch/clock signs.

Pocketwatches used by railroad employees had to be "certified' every year or two ...... to be accurate to "the minute".

Perhaps I will sell it at some point. As I stated before, I did pay a good chunk of change for it - but it was worth it. One of the nicest  watch trade signs that I have ran across.
