looking for dresser information
« on: August 03, 2013, 01:26:35 pm »
I got an old dresser from my great grandfather's house.  It had 3 drawers, a mirror, 2 shelves on the side (I assume for candles?) and a sanddollar carved in the very top.  Any information on where I could find another, where this was made, value, ANYTHING would be very appreciated.

Nope, that's why I'm looking for one.  It came from my great grandfather's house, I had it for years then lost it in a fire.

Either looking for information or maybe a website where I can look at pictures...I google and surf and it's hard to just find a site nowadays.  I google and get dumb stuff like target.com where I can buy dressers...things like that.  Hard to just search "pictures of antique dressers" or anything like that.

We are not mind readers...a clearer explanation would have helped at the beginning...

sorry, it's my first time.  I was already frustrated because a few years ago you could just search for something and get a clearer choice of what you were looking for.  Now it's almost impossible.  Anyway, can you lead me to websites like I'm speaking of?

I would suggest google images !! But you need a clearer timeline for it !! Do you know the approximate year he got the dresser ??  What kind of legs and feet did it have ?? Was the mirror round or what shape !! If we can narrow down your search it will be much easier for you !!  Any details will help !! Are you sure it was a sand dollar or just a round ornamentation !!  Was it centered on the crest of the mirror ??

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was a sanddollar.  Not sure when he got it, it was my grandmother's when she was a child, she was born in I think 1906.  And yes the sanddollar was on the top crest.  The mirror swiveled 'up and down' and was rectangle - long side up (protrait).  Legs were very short, if you could call them legs at all.  Thanks for speaking to me, I know I'm not giving much to go on.  I thought maybe the sanddollar would help.  I'll try google images for 1906 dresser...see what that brings.  Thanks!

Oh no! Many of these are just like it!  The ones with the tall mirrors and the little shelf on either side.  It was a flat top, tho, did not have the 2 little drawers.  I will have to look at these more carefully.  Thank you!
