Victorian Cobalt Blue Decanter
« on: August 04, 2013, 08:56:05 am »
That's the name that was on this item when we bought it. It has six of the little cordial cups and except for the Victorian scenery in the center the rest is hand painted. I've posted a photo of the bottom so that the stylized 'P' (it looks like a P) can be seen. It's a beautiful set even if it's not worth much. For what it's worth we bought this at an antique shop in Burnet, Tx and paid $69.00 for it.

Blown up it looks like a 'P' and to the right appears to be just a white squiggly line.

Thanks Mart, apparently I hadn't looked hard enough when trying to find similar pieces or wasn't quite sure what I was looking for.

I agree, think we'll stick with silver plate which will be my next postings. Probably the majority of our three cabinets are full of it.

No, not today Mart. My wife spent $54.00 and that was it for a 210mi drive. Now if I had a few $100,000 to spend it would have been more. One store in Fredericksberg has mostly sterling, $100.00 for a spoon?? And of course they have lots of crystal for lots of $$$ but I could not find any cobalt blue glass I was interested. Guess I'm really starting to get picky on what I get. Oh well, going to Round Rock next week, big place there.

Wendy was on earlier and I bumped up this and another of yours hoping she would take a look but she was here only a few minutes !! Maybe we will catch her next time !!
Maybe you need to expand your search area !!  Try smaller towns !! Or I should say less obvious towns !!

Good idea Mart, I'll have to check the Antique Trails of Texas website this evening and see where we can go that won't put us overnight (can't leave our dogs along).

I would say this set is Venetian due to handle ( twisted and how it is attached) The stem of wine decanter and stems of glasses also how it is marked all screams Venetian to me.  I also think the scene has an Italian look. Here is a Venetian  set  so you can see what I mean. Beautiful set!!

Thanks Wendy, that is a beautiful set. Any guess as to what ours may be worth, if much of anything?

In this market $60.00 to $80.00 on a good day. Unless you discovered the maker from the mark was some famous glass house.
