When there are numbers on the bottom corners of a painting,is that the number of them that were painted?

numbered editions are not normall;y put on the front....there is usually a numbered certificate on the rear....i.e....for instance...number 232...of 1000...or something along those lines....

And the number that were printed, not painted. However, screenprints and linocuts are considered works of art in their own right. It's basic laser prints that struggle to retain their value

That's on cardboard isn`t it ??  The right is the litho company that printed it and the number is probably the series number and is important only to the litho company that made it !! Do you see the curvy texture in the pics,, that's how all of these cardboard things were done,, may be a different shape but they all have an overall pattern !! They have changed in since then but you can find lots of these at garage sales !!

Yes I believe it is card board. It was in a frame and I took it out because I saw numbers or something and just wanted to read it. So in other words its not worth anything except to the litho company?

She may have just asked someone without taking it to be checked !!  No one would have appraised this one at more than $10. and that value would be in the frame !!  Sorry but these could be bought at department stores for $19.95 framed !!  They were designed so even people with small incomes could have access to quality artwork even if a reproduction !!

piece of advice, stop buying paintings/prints, litho,s.....in fact anything that remotely resembles a picture.....walk on by....
