Old Matchbox Cover
« on: August 06, 2013, 10:09:55 pm »
Hi all, so I recently purchased an old looking Matchbox Cover from an antique shop out in Woodland, CA. It's in fairly used condition so I assume that if it's worth something, it won't be as much as it could. I couldn't get a good photo of it, but on the side, where the strike hole is, it reads "Puritan Pewter" on the top and "W. & S.B." on the bottom.

More than it's value, since I only paid $8.66 for it, I want to know the history of the brand/who W. and S.B were, as well as the era in which it might have been made. I found something with W.&S.B stamp on it that was dated back to the 1920s, but those were plates so I'm not entirely sure of the correlation.

Also, I wanted to know if there is a brand of match makers that still make boxes that could fit into it, and where I can buy them. The box that was in it, which is a Vulcan safety match box, measures about 1.5 inches by 1 inch by 0.5 inch.
