OLD Stamps of the USA
« on: August 22, 2013, 09:05:44 am »
Hi Again..
Had a chance to look through my grandfathers stamp collection & noticed several pages of stamps from the US.
I have lots more but these ones he had taken the time to put in his album....
I don't have any reference books for dating them and had a quick look on ebay & none of any value stick out.
I have not checked for watermarks or errors etc
Just wondered if any Americans that would have a better knowledge of this type of stamp could help me out.

I'm fairly sure they are in date order but I find the presidents confusing and out of what I know as date history :S
I'm trying to sell them in batches starting at 99p on ebay so if anything is worth more than £3 or £4 I would need to make sure it don't sell for 99p.

Are you wanting to know the values on all of these? If so it would take me some time but I have the Scott 2010 set of stamp catalogs that list all US up to 2009 and the world and I could look them up. Are they all used?

Stamps on eBay are barely selling right now. I have two albums with nearly 1,000 stamps each that range from the 1910s to the 1960s, and I can't even get $70 for an album. One of the "official" albums from the era and they are all unused.
Take every price I say with a grain of salt...

Capot, It would take a long time to do that, but I just need t make sure there are no really valuable ones.
they are al used yes.

Mart. your internet itself sounds antiquated  ;D

Yes it appears the Stamp market is a bit flooded thanks to ebay :/

The first page is done, I'm going to attach it here. I saved your photos to my drive which makes it much easier as I can blow them up to make identification easier in the catalog. It's not that hard to go through these as they're all in order by date. Since they've all been used they're not really worth a lot only those stamps in 'very fine' condition are really worth anything. But at least by looking at the file(s) I'll be sending you'll know a bit more about the stamp. And since I really don't have that much to do I'll try and get the other pages done in the next few days.

No problem, I'll get the rest done in the next few days. Remember, those prices are for very fine condition. For instance, used stamps will have light or otherwise neat cancellations. I'd say the ones you have are probably not worth more than a few cents each I'm sorry to say.

This is where I buy my stamps from. This link will show you prices on the Lincoln Memorial stamp. Those that you posted are used and not together as a block, however, this will show you what they would have been worth. I'm still working on the others. Luckily they're in order as they are in my book.

I'm getting started on the 2nd page, sorry, had other stuff going on lately. Yes, at that link you should be able to identify most. Another hint if you're going to collect stamps, they're worth more if they've never been 'hinged'. That's why mine are in the little protective sleeves. Here are some more links if you're interested in collecting:

I've got the first three pages done. The numbers in ( ) are the look-up numbers at Mystic Stamp. Should have the other three done by the weekend.
