For wullie.........my mud buddy
« on: August 25, 2013, 05:40:35 pm »
Although he's not 'old'.......his look of age, wisdom and kindness touched me. I'd love to find him some company someday.

Why do they call them Mud men ??

Possibly because they were originally made from mud/clay??  I've seen some very rough, primitive looking ones that actually do look like dried mud. Now you'll have me googling again!   :D

ghopper he's no where near the quality of your ladies........but I do love his look.  Plenty of his kind floating around on ebay, some who would go very well with my fisherman.......but I'll be damned if I'll pay the shipping fees they're asking.  Just gonna have to keep watching my thrift store shelves and see if his 'brothers' turn up ;)

He's missing his fishing pole.......was hoping a kabob skew would work, but they're too thick.  I'll have to start whittling I guess.......after I dislodge the remains of the first one out of his fist.

I hope I can clear this up for Wullie and everyone. I used to sell these in a retail store in the 80's. They are called mud figures because of the unglazed faces and other flesh like hands and feet. I bought some for around 15.00 and sold them for 25.00 because they were not familiar to people or even dealers at the time. When the US resumed allowing Chinese imports these were one of the best products that were shipped to the US. They were top quality at a great price. I wish that I had hung onto a couple.

Don't even go there.......just sent a parcel off to the daughter in Bermuda. Can't bring myself to check the tracking......all those summer clothes she ordered may get there in time for their 'winter' weather.  :P

I can't understand why it is nearly alway cheaper to ship from the UK to us, but for us to ship international it's ridiculous. And the majority of US ebay listings on our Canadian site ..........mind boggling.  (no commenting on my boggled mind.....cause I know it was on the tip of your tongue as soon as you read that!)

I shipped some vintage luggage to Australia from the US. It arrived in ten days. I shipped a doll from the US to Canada and it arrived in three weeks - broken. Hear the sound of me scratching my head? I stopped shipping out of the country after that.
