Brass Gimbal Candle Holders
« on: September 17, 2013, 06:58:49 am »
I found these two candle holders in my aunt's estate. They are weighted and pivot so they can be used on a table or as hanging holders, I tried selling for $10 for the pair, but the most I was offered was $2. Seems a little low to me. They are nice heavy pieces. What would be a reasonable price to ask?

Well, ..i,d give you $10 for the pair....but ...the postage to me would probably be treble that.....next time anyone offers you a measly $2....just ask them...."what part of them would you like"....they are worth $10 + all day long....Avril loves them.....over here we call them ...Wee Willie Winkie Candle Holders...

They look like Victorian boudoir candlesticks !!  Although not that old I don`t think !! When ladies retired to bed they could be carried upright then hung by the bed for night time !!  Where are you located ??

I'm in upstate NY. They weigh a total of 3 pounds and they are about 6.5" tall when sitting on a horizontal surface.

If you don't sell on ebay them make sure that you take your bayonettes to a reputable auction house

I wouldn't use an auction to sell again. I tried that right after my mom passed to try to sell some items and they realized about a tenth of what I expected to get ($10 for a 8 foot long oak church bench, $30 for an oak china closet, and my mom's jewelry was sold as a "box lot" for $3 and Bibles from the early 1800s for a dollar or two each). After that I vowed to sell on my own so I'd have some control over what happened.

Well, from where i,m sitting....you,ve boxed yourself into a corner....you talk about having control.....control is ok...if you are making money....but from looking over your past topics....you don,t make a lot....and what you do have for sale is either too expensive...or has been with you for years...I,ve sold on ebay for a few years....I,ve shipped worldwide, and out of over 300 sales have only ever had one disgruntled buyer....I,ve shipped to the US...with the postage costs being over $350 ..for one item.....and the buyer was very happy.....
now here you are...looking for $10 for these sticks...you were offered $2....I offered  you $10 + postage to UK ...but you don,t post.....that says it all.....you make your bed...you,ve got to lie in it.....no point coming on here moaning......
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

What is the problem with ebay ??  Its easy, you don`t have to set up tables, or price all that stuff and mailing supplies are pretty much free the way I do it !! And your money goes into your bank whenever you choose !!  Although I just use mine for buying so I don`t link a bank account !!
