?Old farm tool?
« on: September 22, 2013, 12:21:54 pm »
Hey everyone, I recently found this piece of what i think to be a antique plow. It is made out of cast iron and is pretty heavy. Can anyone tell me what it was used for and what the age of it may be. Any info would be appreciated

Bigwull is right, it's the "Frog" or point of a plow. The Moldboard, Share and Landside make up the rest...but the Frog is what does the hard work of first contact with the earth. By the 1860's they were being made out of chilled steel to wear longer and to have the ability to scour in heavy soils.

The others got it right!

When I view the picture...it appears to me that the lettering is reversed. Can you please describe to us the lettering on the logo (plow)  Looks like ???FEB?  I know there is a 2 on the piece as well.  It also is reversed/backwards maybe upside down????

There,s no looks about it......it is the picture of a plow....and from the looks of it....its of a type that had a horse/in the front...and some poor soul hanging on for dear life at the back....which would make it...very old.....as to value.....well....n ot a lot i would say....unless there is someone out there that has the other part and not this part....

Figured yours was for a walking plow. Have known it as a plow point but it is also known as a plow share!

I believe this is one like yours...only red!  Made by Oliver and it is vintage!

Yup, especially the ones that were beaten from swords.  ;) ;)
