Antique poker box with a pair of matching percussion pistols
« on: September 24, 2013, 05:57:06 pm »
I have an antique mahogany or rosewood case approx 1850. The case does have a season split in the top and some of the brass trim is missing but otherwise in good condition. The case has two matching glass jars with lids, an antique treen dice cup, clay poker chips, hand made bone dice, poker dice, antique Samuel Hart playing cards in good condition in box - all 52 cards. The top tray lifts up with brass rings revealing two engraved percussion pistols in good working condition. One is missing a screw under the grip but otherwise, they are in very good condition. It also has a percussion cap tin. On the top right side of the case is a pin that when you lift up, a spring loaded drawer on the right pops open. In this tray is a set of antique eyeglasses, an antique straight razor, antique cigar container (marked GER Silver), and two card sleeve cheating tools made by Wizard pat date 1888. I have attached pics.  Do you know the value?

This is wonderful

Worth a lot of money but even that depends on the pistols. Can we have close ups of those ? There should be proof marks near the barrel, possible makers marks too.

Holy cats! That's awesome, old west collectors would love it! That said there are some beautiful functional reproduction pistols. I would start by looking up the serial numbers.

Are there no marks near the hammer / barrel ? Might only appear as three very small dots, or a bomb / cross.

Where did you get this set ??  Part of the value is going to be its originality !! Put together sets are much less valuable than one that has its original parts !!  It really looks like a nice one from what I can see !!

Get a magnifying glass and look over the gun very carefully for any identifying information on it.  If you find any more please take a pic and post.  If you aren't able to take a pic of it please tell us what it says.

I am going to be posting some dueling pistols within the week that my sister-in-law inherited from her dad.  It is amazing how many identifiers are on them when you really look hard!
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

The barrels of the guns unscrew and both have a circle mark with the letters LEG and a star inside the circle.  tks

Thought so. Belgian. Liege proof marks and dates them around 1900, which ties in with that particular pack of cards ( they could be replacements though ) and the German silver cigar case ( one seen here http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/3145379 )

A few clearer pics would be nice but i think we're in the low to mid four figures.
