What kind of chair is this?
« on: September 28, 2013, 12:10:31 pm »
Hello,
I am looking for help to identify this chair. I bought it painted so the company name, if it was there, can't be seen. During the search for who made it, what kind of chair is it, and what is it worth - I saw many similar chairs but  I don't have the knowledge to answer my own questions! This chair was in someone's attic for a very long time before I bought it at an estate sale.
Thanks for your help.

I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Yeah, although antique windsors can be quite valuable, both english and american, this would not be in that category. Still, if the joints are sound, good sitting chair but not much value. Where are you located?

Someone asked about location. I am in Minnesota.
Thanks to all who answered!
Value opinion - low - what if it was restored?

Your Windsor style chair is most likely from the 1940`s or 50`s !! It does not have the graceful arms of the earlier chairs and is much heavier in construction !! Legs are much more straight and the back has a rather barrel like appearance !! Were usually used with at attached cushion and are a bit uncomfortable without one !!  Even restored not much value but many of these were painted originally !!  Maybe $20. !!  Sorry !!

I would say the only restoration it needs is another coat of paint. Since the early Windsor chairs were used as outdoor seating, maybe that would be the best use for it. :D  (Minnesota?...Yell at those darn Twins for me. :'()

yes, location is kinda important when trying to figure out what, where, when in old furniture. I notice many dont include that info on their post or in their personal info.

Yes, I see that location would be important. It seems my chair is American?
I wonder who would have made this in America?
Is mine Windsor "style" or is it  a Windsor? Thanks!

location as to what part of the world you come from, specific address is not needed so i don't know why someone would be afraid. For instance, in my profile, i list Charlotte NC so someone at least knows what part of the country i am in and, with a 1 million population here, i dont really see someone showing up on my door step unless i give them a specific address.
