Old Eagle oil lamp
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:07:07 pm »
I'm trying to get a guesstimate of the age of an oil lamp i bought at a church rummage sale.  It's an Eagle, and it has a threaded brass insert in the top of the reservoir, if that's any indication of anything.  I bought it because it's a beautiful lamp, and the guy said it belonged to his grandmother.  Just curious how old it might be.

Thanks!  I was guessing 1920s.  I was just curious if my hunch was correct.  I figured for the $15 I paid for it I wasn't getting some rare gem.

It is not an Eagle lamp although I couldn't tell you who made it. The Burner is an Eagle that was used on many lamps from the era. I have one just like it that belonged to my Granny.

Thanks for the info, Illiniguy. I was going to say I'm pretty sure it's an Eagle because that's what's stamped on the burner, but I missed the latter part of your post. :)

If the name is on the metal that is not the m=name of the lamp although many people use it to describe a particular lamp if the glass isn`t marked !!  The burners were usually bought in bulk by the glass company !!  Same burners were used on all of the lamps they made !! Turn the lamp upsidedown and see if the glass is marked !! Some were but most were not !!

its a bit of a conundrum...if the burner is an Eagle...then by definition...you can honestly say its an Eagle lamp.....for without the burner...its just 2 pieces of glass.... ;D
